'THIRD SUNDAY' P & J SERVICE. This Is An Informal Half-hour Service Once A Month, Aimed Particularly At Young Families And The Young In Heart. If You Want To Come To Church But Are worried About Keeping Your Toddlers Or Primary Age Children Still During A Longer Service, Perhaps The P & J Service Is One You Might Try.

UNWELL and on our list for prayer. If you have asked to be put on the list, or have asked for prayer for someone else, and they get better (!) please let us know so that we can give thanks, and occasionally take some names off the list!

APPEAL FOR KNITTERS: If you enjoy knitting have a word with Elsie Morley. We hope to have knitted Nativity Crib figures (a quiet toy), and big enough for small children to handle at Christmas.

CRÉCHE: A crèche will now be running in the choir vestry every Sunday throughout the service. If anyone would like to contribute their time or some appropriate toys, please contact Ben or Clare: 07818841697.

INTERCESSIONS: We are looking for more people to take a turn in leading the prayers on Sunday morning The American Church has a nice heading for this: it is called 'The Prayers of the People'. It would be lovely to have more people involve'd. We can give some guidelines and some training. Please speak to Jill or David or Peter or Ben if you might think about this.

TRAIDCRAFT: will now be sold in the church every 3rd Sunday between the 10am service and the PJ service. CHURCH LIBRARY! The books at the back of church were looking dusty and unloved, and I don't know when anyone last borrowed one! We are proposing to put them in the hail for a few weeks and invite donations if you'd like to take one home for good. After that we will give them to a charity that collects Christian books.

HOLIDAY CLUB 2008: Please pray for all those children who will be involved with our Holiday Club from 30th Jul - 1st August.

GIVING CAMPAIGN: Thank-you to the 33 people who have replied so far.. Averaged out we have increased our income by 18%. Can we make it 25% which would be a terrific response? We hope everyone has had a chance to read the leaflet carefully which outlines our costs, and how to give. If you haven't had a chance to fill in your Form, can you give this some thought & prayer this week?

VACANCY FOR GOVERNOR at Bishop Perrin At the end of this term Gail Goddard is standing down as a governor of Bishop Perrin. She has served for 14 years and made an enormous contribution to the school for which we thank her wholeheartedly. This leaves a vacancy for a St Philip & St James foundation governor for the school. Bishop Perrin is currently oversubscribed, and has recently had an extremely successful OFSTED inspection- working with the school is a rewarding experience. If you think you may be interested in taking on this role, please speak to Russell Nimmo for more details.

WATER COMPANY POLICY: As some of you may be aware, Water Companies are starting to charge Churches for the amount of water that will be discharged intc the sewer network from church arid church hall sites; i.e. they are withdrawing the charitable discount that has been in force. This will effectively raise most churches water bills by hundreds if not thousands of pounds. The charge will depend on surface area involved e.g. not just roofs but car parks, any areas where the water doesn't drain in to the soil. There is an online government petition on which you can register; the more signatures there are the better. To sign the petition, go to http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/ChurchWaterBills

LONDON CHURCHES ENVIRONMENTAL NETWORK: Saturday 6th September: London Loop Walk.
Details from the Revd Barry Goodwin 020 8256 9637 barrv.goodwin@southwark.anglican.org
14th September: Creationtide Service at St Paul's Cathedral
9th October St Francis Lecture: the Rt. Revd James Jones, Bishop of Liverpool at St. Mary Ie Bow Church, Cheapside at 7.00 pm.

CHRISTIAN AID: Jacquie and Hugh Saville would like to thank everyone who helped with the Christian Aid house to house collection this year. Despite only slightly over half the 39 roads allocated to St Philip & St James having been taken (even less than last year), we were still able to collect £1720, or almost £2000 if Gift Aid is taken into account. Our 2008 figure was up by slightly over £100 on what we took last year - so well done to all who worked so hard.
