Our
Church is a small Victorian church built in 1862. We are a friendly congregation
and offer a Junior Church and creché at the main 10.0am Sunday Eucharist.
On the first Sunday of each month we have a very popular Family Eucharist,
a
shortened service which is designed especially for children.
There is no
Junior Church on this Sunday as we feel that it is important for the whole church
family to be together.
The
Church was designed by F.W.Pownall, Architect of Gower Street, London,
in the early English style. The land on which the Church was built was given
by Maria Gostling,
a member of a well known Whitton Family.
A
Stone Tablet is set in the lower part of the Tower, reading:-
"In memory of a beloved Brother,
Augustus Gostling LL.D."
The Tower was erected by his surviving sister, Maria Gostling A.D. 1862.
The Clock, by Benson, was installed in 1887 to commemorate Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee.
The Lady Chapel Altar is a memorial to Denys Rogers, the eldest son of a former Vicar, who was killed in action on 21st.March 1918 in the 1914-1918 Great War.
The Altar and Reredos is
a memorial to Colonel Gostling Murray.
Inscribed on the Reredos is:-
"To the Glory of God and in memory of Colonel C.E Gostling Murray
of
Whitton Park. Middlesex.
Born 12th.May 1825. Died 24th.May 1892.
This Reredos was erected by his wife Margaret Gostling Murray in 1895.
The Bound Rood, a brass plate
reads:-
"Made in Nottingham Alabaster in the 15th. Century
Found at Plosyn-Pentre near Valle Crucis Abbey, Llangollen.
Placed in this Church by the
Revd. W.O.B.Rogers, Vicar, A.D 1913
It is put in this position so that the blood of Christ
may drip upon it and wash away the sins of the world.
To the right of the figure of Christ is a ladder and Left and Right,
the whips with which He was scourged.
The Lectern is in the
form of an eagle with out-stretched wings. The eagle is the symbol of St.John
the Evangelist. It also symbolizes the taking of the Gospel to all four corners
of the world.
On the base the Lectern is dedicated:-
"To the Glory of God in loving memory of Thomas William Lidderdale, Easter
1886".
